The Tyrol has long been a popular destination, where charming villages are scattered among luscious hillsides and sparkling lakes. During this tour, you will discover its many highlights from its capital, Innsbruck, to the unforgettable scenery.

Hotel Tyrol

Welcome to Hotel Tyrol where all rooms come with a balcony and mountain views in a quiet location close to the village centre.
Location: Nestled in the alpine village of Söll, just a short distance from the centre. Room facilities: En-suite with bath/shower, hairdryer, safe (rooms in main building),

Food and drink:
Open for breakfast buffet and evening meal and bar open noon ‘til midnight.
What’s included: 6 nights bed, breakfast & 4-course evening meal (choices of 3 main courses – 1 is vegetarian – and salad buffet). The evening meal on arrival night consists of a 4-course set menu or buffet (no drinks). A champagne breakfast (day TBC). A Tyrolean Farmers buffet or Austrian evening (Thursday). A coffee & cake in the afternoon (Thursday). A welcome drink (1 glass of beer or wine per person). Porterage of 1 bag per person

Itinerary

From idyllic lakes to picturesque mountains, our itinerary really does make the most of this beautiful region. How does our itinerary work? Our itinerary is optional giving you the flexibility to do what you enjoy most on your holiday. Certain attractions and activities incur an additional charge.

Day 1
UK Departure
Depart Leicestershire and head down to Dover for your crossing to Calais. Stop overnight en route to Austria in Metz, includes dinner, bed & breakfast.

Day 2
Austria arrival
From Reims head to the beautiful Austrian Tyrol. Check-in to your hotel in the heart of Söll.

Day 3
Rattenberg
After a leisurely breakfast, we head to medieval Rattenberg, where there are options to watch a demonstration of strudel-making and the mesmerising process of glass-blowing.

Day 4
Achensee Cog Railway and Lake Cruise
This morning we head to Jenbach, a beautiful little town to the south of Lake Achen, the Tyrol’s biggest lake. Why not make the most of your visit here by taking a ride up to the lake on the Cog Railway? The steam locomotive, dating from 1889, will take you up the side of the mountain to the lake, where you may also want to take a relaxing lake cruise.

Day 5
Innsbruck
Our destination today is the beautiful alpine city of Innsbruck, the capital of the Tyrol. With a spectacular backdrop of snow-capped mountains, Innsbruck offers a picture-book old town full of historical buildings.

Day 6
Zell am See and Kitzbühel
The busy town of Zell am See has long been a favourite with visitors from the UK. Sitting on the banks of Lake Zell, and with the Hohe Tauern Mountains behind, the setting is often described as one of Austria’s most beautiful. You could take a leisurely cruise on the lake, followed by time to explore the cobbled streets of the historic town centre. Visit the charming medieval centre of Kitzbühel where the town with its brightly coloured facades and quaint architecture is yours to explore!

Day 7
Day at leisure
There’s free time today to relax in the hotel and explore the local area. There will also be coffee and cake served in the hotel in the afternoon.

Day 8
Austria departure
Today we take our leave from the wonderful Tyrol and begin our journey home. Overnight in Reims. Dinner and breakfast included.

Day 9
UK arrival
We continue on to Calais for our crossing to Dover and then on home to Leicestershire.

Café Hacker – Apple strudel demonstration in Rattenberg
A very special coffee break for visits to Rattenberg. All members of the group receive the recipe for the Mozart Melange (coffee with frothy milk), and also can keep the mug it is served in as a souvenir. Groups also receive a piece of fresh apple strudel from the demonstration.

Kisslinger Glass – Glass-blowing demonstration
Experience the mystery of glass! See how the glass blowers and glass cutters, glass painters, glass engravers and art glassblowers shape and process the red-hot molten mass into unique works with supreme craftsmanship. Experience for yourself the primeval power and magic of the mystery of “glass”, in the red hot, steaming flow of liquid glass. Only someone who has experienced how the techniques practiced by many generations have produced the highest quality glass products knows about the great importance of mouth-blown glass.

Achenseebahn – Round trip train ride from Jenbach to Seespitz
The Achensee Railway is a 6.78 kilometres long metre gauge railway running between Jenbach and Seespitz on Lake Achensee in Tyrol. Within its length it rises some 440 metres in height, with the steeper sections using the Riggenbach rack system. It is Europe’s oldest cog railway which is still steam operated.

Tirol-Schiffahrt – 2 hour round-cruise on Achensee Lake
Lake Achen is a lake north of Jenbach in Tyrol, Austria. It is the largest lake within the federal state, and has a maximal depth of 133 metres. Together with the Achen Valley it parts the Karwendel mountain range in the west from the Brandenberg Alps in the east.

Zell am See Cruise – 45 minute panorama cruise on Lake Zell
Zell am See is an Austrian town on Lake Zell, south of the city of Salzburg. Its Romanesque St. Hippolyte Church has a distinctive tower added in the 15th century. Trails and lifts lead to the ski slopes of Schmittenhöhe mountain. Southwest, views from Gipfelwelt 3000 panoramic platform, at the top of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, take in Hohe Tauern National Park and the looming Grossglockner mountain.
